Teachers Might Be Thinking:
This is so much pressure, not only on me, but on my students as well.
Did I prepare my students enough for this test?
If my students perform poorly, that's a reflection on me as a teacher.
What could I have done differently to better prepare them for this?
How can I make this easier on my students?
What should I be telling my classroom parents so they know what to expect?
Should I give my parents tips on what to do with their children at home to prepare them?
I feel like my students are going to do very poorly on this test.
There is no way my students can handle this.
My students can only learn so much at a time.
Our expectations are too high for these students.
I don't have enough time to prepare my students for the test.
Words That Might Be Encouraging:
You are doing the absolute best that you can.
Your students will perform to the best of their abilities on the test.
Your class is going to do great!
You have prepared them very well.
You have taught them how to think. They will be successful.
Your students seem very well-rounded and prepared.
All of your hard work is going to pay off.
You have invested yourself in these kids. Have faith in your teaching ability.
This is the culmination of your teaching and hard work.
This is something you have to do. Embrace it, and know that you are doing your best, and so are your students.
Keep your attitude positive and your students will reflect that, too.
Words That Might Be Discouraging:
It's just a test.
It is all going to be over soon!
The students will be fine.
State testing is ridiculous and pointless.
Don't stress; their scores do not have an affect on you.
It is just a test; what is the big deal?
You cannot do anything about it now.
You haven't been hitting the strategies strong enough.
Do you do anything besides practicing for STAAR?
There is no way those kids are going to pass.
What do you expect from kids like those?
Those kids do not have a chance.
Good luck. I sure hope they do all right.
